In this episode, we take a look at the 1951 Bob Hope classic, The Lemon Drop Kid! It’s got capers and Christmas and the first film appearance of the song Silver Bells. If you like old dolls and comedy schtick, you might consider this one for a holiday movie watch.
In this episode, we take a look at our December Bag of Destiny pick, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story! Megan thought Eric would hate it because of the style of comedy, but she sort of remembered the actual movie experience incorrectly, and Eric really liked it. It’s actually a pretty well crafted parody of the rock biopic and easily the best thing the Bag has gifted us.
In this episode, we take a look at a true holiday trainwreck, Nutcracker in 3D! Nothing says heartwarming tale like a confusing mess of CGI with overt holocaust themes and toys being burnt up in ovens. A SHARK IS ELECTROCUTED FOR LAUGHS. We can’t even with this one.
In this episode, we take a look at our November Bag of Destiny pick, the 2008 old timey football movie, Leatherheads! It’s a perfectly adequate movie that has a certain charm to it, but it’s nothing special. Sort of like restaurant meatloaf – filling, but not very flavorful. If you like George Clooney, you’ll probably have a decent time.
In this episode, we take a look at the 1968 Otto Preminger LSD fueled film, Skidoo! Eric loves this mess, Megan found it pretty bewildering. It’s full of a bunch of middle aged stars getting hip to the hippies of the counter-culture and jokes straight from the Jackie Gleason Show. Acid trips are less confusing. Also, Megan incorrectly identifies the director of Sunset Boulevard (it’s Billy Wilder, but the famous quote is about Cecile B. DeMille.)
In this episode, we take a look at the 1997 David Mamet con game film, The Spanish Prisoner! It’s a lesser known Mamet property that uses Steve Martin in a serious role as a bad guy and Campbell Scott as a boy scout inventor duped by Martin’s smooth operation. The movie’s plot twists and turns in the usual way for a con game, but it’s an enjoyable ride. Also, GO WATCH GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. Seriously.
In this episode, we take a look at the 2015 supernatural/psychological horror film, the Blackcoat’s Daughter! We’re kind of split in our opinion of this one – Eric liked it and thinks it’s a movie that more people need to see, but Megan found it kind of brutal and slow and unpleasant. It’s one of those films that’s more interesting to think about after the fact, though your mileage may vary.
In this episode, we take a look at our second Bag of Destiny selection, Mutant Chronicles! It was dreadful. It was full of horrible CGI. It was anger inducing. Damn you, Bag of Destiny.
In this episode, we take a look at the 2009 dark comedy horror film, Jennifer’s Body! Both Eric and Megan really liked it, even though the box office reception when it first came out seems to show that audiences at the time didn’t. It’s got decent writing, decent acting and some interesting twists on horror tropes that you don’t always see. Also, Eric thinks Amanda Seyfried looks like an alien.
In this episode, we take a look at the 1956 Roger Corman jewel heist on the bayou, Swamp Women (aka Swamp Diamonds)! It’s full of feisty female escaped convicts, swamp water and bad decisions. Also, Touch Connors… and all the ladies want to touch up on Touch, if we are to believe what this movie has to say.
